Day Two

I think we have had some sort of discussion, reasonably concluded, about Day One (Arrival Day).

As I won't be at my sharpest, and perhaps others won't be either, late in the evening of Day One, maybe we ought to decide at least the beginning of Day Two. So, you know, I can set my alarm clock and all in case an early train is on the agenda.

So, where to, Day Two?

I vote we go to Englischer Garden, Seehaus to be exact.

Unless it is raining.

We could, but I would say to do that Sunday afternoon, after Andechs - as that day can't be used for a day trip anyway. Unless we only want to do one day trip? (Monday)

(I'm not counting Andechs as a day trip, although others might)

Are we going to try to go to 2 places outside the city?
Would we have time to go to Seehaus and Andechs? Seems dicey to me, especially if we are going to try to go into the tents.
Monday we have reservations in the Hippodrome for lunch or afternoon.
What time do those start?

Good points all Paulaner Girl.

So, no day trips?

That would be disappointing, to me anyway.

I think we should do this:
Friday: Weisn, HFBH ? afterwards?

Sat: get up, eat breakfast (god I hate salami for breakfast)
If sunny, go to Englisher Gartens, have lunch, plan visit a few of the beir gartens.

After lunch at Englisher gartens, take the train to somewhere new within an hour or so of Munich, drink yet more beer and have dinner. Maybe not even attempt to go into the Weisn since it most likely will be a zoo.

Sunday, go to Andechs, come back, head to the Weisn. Hopefully Sunday afternoon/evening will be better than Sat night.

Mon: Reservations at Hippodrome, possibly stay there when we vacate table, or head to another tent.

If it's raining on Sat, then maybe flip Sat/Sunday's plan. Although a rainy day at Andechs probably wouldn't be any fun either.

Shakespeare's is an option any and all nights

If we want to do a day trip, then I guess we do that on Sat, and try and do Andechs and Seehaus the same day. But every year we way we're going back to Seehaus and we haven't gone. This year's trip is too short :>(

Spirited discussion bTW....

I vote for a day trip to Tegersee or some place...

As I see it we have two possible times for a day trip.

I would like to take at least one, and might take two.

Saturday is not blocked by any other committed activity, nor is Monday up until we go to Hippodrome - which can be as late as mid-afternoon.

Sunday afternoon (2ish on) is also open, but is (I think) too limited a time to attempt a day trip, but might be plenty of time to see a biergarten (or two) in Munich - such as those in and around Englischer Garten. Later Sunday, we of course can try the tents, or go to yet another biergarten. Question - Is the Chienese Turm or SeeHaus limited in hours on Sunday?

So, accepting my premise: that Saturday, most of the day is open for a trip, and Monday, partial day - what could be done?

Perhaps Tegernsee Saturday, as it would take a good six hours to go, enjoy and return, and something closer/easier on Monday?

I believe this would still leave openings for SeeHaus, LowenBrau and other - in Munich - biergartens.

What time are our reservations on Monday? Remember this is Germany. We are expected to show up on time, or no beir, one year.

Another possibility:

Sunday morning has traditionally been a trip to Andech. What if we moved it to the afternoon? We could do a late breakfast at SeeHaus, then head to Andechs.

I just checked the reservation times. It's 15:30-18:30, and if we're late, we lose our reservations. We may also need to pick up our vouchers at the tent, I'm a little confused about that.
Barleyman, you actually made the reservations, do you know the procedure?
Anyway, that will give us plenty of time to go to Englisher Gartens then I guess straight to the Hippodrome for Happy Hippo Hour ;>).
So Sat would be very free for a day trip. Yeah we can all get what we want!
Sunday we should try to go to the tents after we get back from Andechs. Our last trip was a little disappointing from that aspect. That would have us going Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I can live with that.

Whew! I was afraid I was going to find myself athwart Paulaner Girl's desires! Issue safely resolved. :-)

Now, back to the first question:

Where to, Day Two?

(and what time do I set my alarm clock for?)

paulaner girl said...

You wouldn't try to thwart me, would you?

Set alarm for 8 am

Now, as Einfart asked, where are we going?

paulaner girl said...

Do you mean the Tegernsee monastery and Brew Haus?

Chugger said...

I'm with Barley Man on Tergensee. It does, however, require good weather. Sitting outside with a view of the lake is primo.

Shit, I commented on a post about the trip... I promised myself I would do that after having been excoriated on my previous post.

Be Polite. No Swearing!

paulaner girl said...

Oh Chugger, you know you needed to be slapped around a little. Just think how much you're going to enjoy the next 5 weeks of me posting a picture of each pair of shoes I'm bringing, with a full description of what day I will wear them.

Tegernsee sounds beautiful. Should we have a plan B in case of rain? Dachau in the rain was even more depressing than I thought it would be

Einfahrt said...

Well, where to start?

First, the idea that Chugger was restraining himself from comment: who are you, and what have you done with Chugger?

Second, my first choice would be Weltenburg. Great place, wonderful river trip getting there, and I dod not have time to enjoy it last time - seems someone had to get back to arrange a very expensive dinner.

I'd love to go again, but put forward the challenge of how to get there and back Saturday.

Rain, unfortunatly would still be an issue.

Next to that Tegernsee. Next to that: I haven't been to Rotenburg (au de Tauber) in quite a while, next to that, perhaps Augsburg. Bamburg was nice as well.

That's my top five.

What're yours?

paulaner girl said...

I was actually going to suggest Baumberg. What a beautiful town that was! But the beer was horrible. If you notice in the picture, I'm drinking water. I gave my beer to Bob. Maybe we wouldn't have to drink the local beer.

The river cruise was nice, but I certainly wouldn't want to repeat it in the rain.

I loved Rotenberg the first time I went, but was a little disappointed the second time. I would have to vote against going back.

paulaner girl said...

any way we could fit in a return trip to Schloss Nymphenberg? last time we couldn't go inside.

Barbus said...

Guys,all by Train;
Bamberg 2,5 hrs
Rothenburg 3 hrs
Tegernsee 1 hr
Andechs 1 hr
Nymphenburg 15 minutes

So guess what are my favourites. We need to keep quality time for drinking, eating and singing other than sitting(sleeping in a train)

paulaner girl said...

good point

BarleyMan said...

I'll do an hour on the train.

The others are great destinations, but usually it's us laying around being hung over.

Einfahrt said...

So, the concensus is, alarm clock around 8:00, breakfast, meet at train station for train to Tegernsee, 1 hour on train, walk the village, enjoy the town, lake, go to the biergarten/beerhall for (or around) lunch, relax a bit there, then train back?

Train schedule?

paulaner girl said...

sounds good

What should we do Sat night?

Whay time shall we leave for Andechs on Sunday?

I need to plan my shoes :>)

Thanks, Barbus.

I vote for Tegernsee (unless someone can come up with a plan for Weltenburg) at 9:42 from the Haupt Bahn Hof.
