ALERT ! ALERT ! ALERT !

I have been offered a tent reservation at the Augustiner Tent, for Sunday the 27th, from 11:00 to 16:30. The table is for 10 people, which means we would not be crowded. I do not know the price yet, but I assume it doesn't matter; 5 1/2 hours at a reserved table on the weekend is Wunderball ! ! ! !

What sayeth the masses?

yes, but that does interfere with Andechs.
Since I am not a fan of pork knuckle, no problemo with me, but what do the die hards pork eaters say?

BarleyMan said...

Sounds good to me.

It does interfere with the religious experience of Andechs on a Sunday, but I believe that a reserved table, at a top tent, on the weekend, trumps any pork knuckle I know.

We could still go to Andechs Monday before the Hippo.

paulaner girl said...

Uh oh, no we're going to englisher gartens Monday am. That also trumps pork knuckle

Chugger said...

As Einfarht is proud of saying... we don't all need to do the same thing at the same time.

With that said, glad you don't have high heels that you will use as a weapon against my diminutive existence.

paulaner girl said...

ok, but I know where we're going, would miss you all

Just to make sure we visit Englischer Gartens.

I suggest we later Friday evening, after the tents mid-day, after HbH mid-afternoon, we go to Engischer Gartens.

Then, after Saturday day-trip, we go to Englischer Gartens.

Sunday Morning: Englischer Gartens has a great (real bacon and sausage and eggs) breakfast at: Englischer Gartens)

Bt Monday, maybe we will have sated Paulaner Girl. Maybe.

Einfahrt said...

Then, Andechs Monday morning.

Hmm do I sense a little hostility? I only want to go once, but during the day in the sunshine. The last 2 trips it was promised, but never fulfilled.

Exactly why is required Andechs every visit?

Chugger said...

Wow. You want HOSTILITY ?!?!?!?!?!?

Andechs is a religious experience. What more could you ask for.. bier, a monestary, a great view, pork products (doesn't have to be a pork knuckle). Did I mention Dopple Bock?

Don't blaspheme now.

paulaner girl said...

sorry, I'm a firm believer in religious freedom. But I honestly have never thought Andechs is Mecca. I realize that I'm outvoted, though.

If we go to Andechs Mon am, can we get back to Weisn by 3? We have to pick up our vouchers, and go in at 3:30. Tardiness will not be tolerated (their rule, not mine)

If that doesn't seem realistic, could we go to Andechs Sat am, then on to Tegernsee? I have no idea which direction any of them are in. Tegernsee seems to have resturants and such, so we could have lunch at Andechs (yum more pork) and dinner there. Any of you more directionally inclined who could figure out the feasibility of that?

Regardless, take the reservation. We can duke some of this stuff out when we get there. I'm going to bring a very heavy pair of boots with pointy toes.

I personally feel that this is cutting it a little close

No hostility from me.

I've been to Englischer Garten twice. Once in the late morning, once early afternoon. Both times: a nice place, but quiet.

In the spirit of trying to experience what the reviewers say is a 3+(out of 5), it might be good to go more than once and at different times. I've never been in the evening, so offered an evening, and a late afternoon time. I did enjoy the REAL BACON breakfast there, so offered that as well.

I have no heartburn one way or another. Well, OK a full pig's nuckle offers heartburn, but . . .

paulaner girl said...

I thought you were joking about the bacon. Maybe we could go Sat afternoon/evening after trip. But I still think 3pm return on Monday from Andechs cutting it too clse with a 3:30 tent reservation. Remember these are the Germans, and they are fussy about time.

paulaner girl said...

So, from what I can tell, the trip between Andechs and Tegernsee is fairly painful, 2-3 hours and involves trains and buses. But I may not be looking in the correct place, so one of you guys who knows how to figure out German train schedules may want to check also.

If we have to choose between Andechs and Tegernsee, which would you all choose?

Tegernsee -----> Andechs
Tegernsee Sa, 15.08.09 ab 11:27
Kloster, Andechs Sa, 15.08.09 an 13:40

> 2 hrs

Not very realistic to do Tegernsee in the morning and Andechs in the afternoon. All together > 4 hrs travel in one day :(

We choose for Tegernsee as scheduled then back and visit English Garden !

BarleyMan said...

You can tell we are getting close... much more passion in this discussion. :-)

Einfahrt said...

I agree with schlumbergerlady: Tegernsee then back. If we have time on another day for Andechs, fine. My opinion, is that we can make it Monday and be back in time, but we can see how we feel then. We'd have to be back 2(ish) to make the 3:30 at Hippodrome. For those up to it, an early morning departure, a mid morning doppelbock and knuckle, back on train by 12:30(ish). Seems doable.

By then we should/could have done Englischer gartens more than once so might be ready for another out of Munich venue.

paulaner girl said...

Is there a 12:30 train back? Barbus posted the sched, just posted the 1:30 train, which is too close for comfort.

What site are you using to look at the schedules?

Ok here's what I found:

München Hbf (tief) Mo, 21.09.09 dep 07:07
Kloster, Andechs Mo, 21.09.09 arr 08:14

or

München Hbf (tief) Mo, 21.09.09 dep 08:31
Kloster, Andechs Mo, 21.09.09 arr 09:43

Return:
Kloster, Andechs Mo, 21.09.09 dep 11:43
München Hbf Mo, 21.09.09 arr 12:53

It's by bus, I can't remember if we took a bus or a train before

Baically we can leave at 8:30 am and get there at 8:14 or 9:43 which is exactly 2 or 3 hours of drinking. What say you all? The next later departure actually got us in at 3:15.

Chugger said...

The trip to Andechs us actually a train and the a short bus ride.

Glad to see everyone is looking for ways to drink and eat pork products.

paulaner girl said...

doesn't look like they actually open until 10 am though

paulaner girl said...

Oops first departure is 7:07 am pretty early

Einfahrt said...

Arriving in time for opening, we would take the 8:31 departure (arriving 9:41); getting back, we could take the 12:43, arriving back 1:53. We might want to use taxis to avoid waiting for the bus (either way). Still take train of course. Another benefit of taxis is avoiding the walk from the bottom of the hill.

We'd have time to freshen and get to Hippodrome by 3:30.

Train/Bus was hourly if I recall. It might not be right now, but I believe it is then (when demand is higher) We can check the schedule for that week then.

If we think it too tight, well, there are a lot of other biergartens. I wouldn't give up Tegernsee, Hippodrome reservations, or reserved tent tickets; I'd just find another time where it could work.

I kind of like the idea of hitting Andechs at a time other than our usual, it might be different.

paulaner girl said...

The schedule I posted was for the week previous, but I looked at the actual day and the schedule is the same. That leaves about an hour for beer drinking.

I think the original Englisher gartens idea is a lot easier. However, I will defer to greater experience if you guys thnks it's doable and worth the work.

Chugger said...

BTW...

The trip is the S-Bahn to Hershing, which is about 40 mins. Then, to Einfahrt's point, a taxi would be appropriate. Routine bus service doesn't start until about 11:00.

Holmes said...

I know not of which you speak, but, somw themes emerge for me:
1) Tent sounds like a good idea
2) Not a fan of pork
3) Any bus ride over 30 minutes is torture
4) Train ride over 90 minutes is not much better
5) Tight schedule is undesirable

RodG:

I agree with you on all by 2.

Pork is a way of life.

Barley

PS Chugger... did you make the reservation?

paulaner girl said...

Is this reservattion the one you were working on through Hotel Alpha? Book it Dano!

Chugger said...

I have informed Anton at Home Base Alfa that we want the tickets. I have not heard back from him yet. I assume all is OK. Hopefully a confirmation today.
