Herding Cats
Well all. We have a great group of people going to the O this year. More than we've ever had. I am going to enjoy the company of all who come. But. However. In contrast. I for one have no idea how to get consensus, coordination, or even congregation of people at the same place/same time. I'd enjoy other's thoughts on this. My personal take is somewhat c'est la vie, whatever, or shit happens - in other words I'm not going to worry about it too much. But. However. I am going to go. I am going to see the sights. I am going to the grounds. I am going to dinner. I am often going in the company of Mrs. EinFahrt. I am not particularly going to try and coordinate anybody. But. However. I am not going to wait around and be coordinated either. Discussion? Help? Advice?

While I completely agree with EinFarht's sentiment, I question his "political correctness". My first response is..... "my way or the highway".
Of course "my" includes Barbus, EinFarht and BarleyMan.

Well, political correctness aside, I think good sized contigents are going to be ready to head off in any particular day-trip, dinner, shopping excursion at almost any short-term arranged time. I'm also thinking someone, somehwere, is not going to be ready, has something to do, but wants to go. Dilema.
Will protocol, travelling rules, cordial prior established conventions be in place that might at least define the ground rules?
"My way or the highway". Need I say more?
Paulaner Girl has stated that she wants to party, and leave the sightseeing and shopping to others.
That said, I have seen her shop....whew!
I suggest we have some options for everyone. We set a 2 minute timer, and when it goes off, we start walking toward what we think is where we want to go. Those who follow are on board, others can do as they wish. ;-)
The thing is, I don't have a strong opinion, just don't want to be grid locked. I absolutely don't want to miss a train because we couldn't all agree on someplace to go. I do want to try some new Biergartens, and at least one significant day trip, preferably to somewhere I haven't been before.
Some ground rules should be set:
1. Be on time in the morning. They have sinks on the trains if you don't get a chance to shower.
2. Leave your attitudse in the room. Let the maid take care of it.
3. If you don't like what we are doing, recruit a few folks and go off on your own. Set a time to meet up later.
4. Don't be afraid to change at the last moment. Spontenaity is the spice of any trip.
5. Drink heavy, and early. If you are drunk, we will carry you along. If you are sober, you are on your own. We have no patience for sobriety.
6. Everyone needs to be a duck. let it roll off your back. "Cleansing breath" everyone!

My comments were mostly tongue in cheek. No problems in the past, except a certain person fixated on the condition of a certain body part. ;-)
The real point being that we are in Munich for a very short time, so less overhead is better. We made an exception once, when Paulaner Girl left her makeup case on the train. even then it was only a 10 minute trip to the department store. AND on the way back from the HofBrauhaus.
Can't wait to see you guys.

BarleyMan is absolutelt correct. No real problems, just trying to plan ahead. We have never had this many people, and we all know that with a crowd comes challenges. In general, our excursions work like clockwork.
Just ask Mr. Dell.

Yea, we maintain a brisk pace. I remember Dell had to continue walking, while he was puking in the bushes near Kloster Ettal (see 1999 Barf Olympics).
No worries...
My only rule.....while I understand that you men can't leave those "certain body parts" at home, I do appreciate only having to hear about their conditions at infrequent intervals. And I reserve the right to buy makeup if needed. Out of curiosity, where are the shoppers going? I don't need a clock, and have seen Rothenburg twice. Can't think of anything else to buy except beer (or wine)

Well, all of this sounds rational. Barleyman's ground rules sound on the right track. We discuss what we want to do, (perhaps multiple groups doing different things as divergence occurs); we meet at the appointed times (2 minute rule applies); we go, enjoy, return, or meet;
Only thing that might facilitate freer movement might be cell phones so groups can meet other groups "on the fly" at wherever they are.
Anyone plan on renting a GSM phone? Hen ('scusi) Barbus will have one, so whatever group he might be with is reachable; any others?
I'm willing to, but perhaps would like to get European rates as oppsed to rape rates for GSM phones here.
I believe Jane has one (US, but GSM supported.) Any others?
