Waiting for the next milestone.

The next major milestone for Oktoberfest comes in July. That is when the Theresienwiese begins its transformation. It morphs from an empty 100+ acre wasteland to a wonderful venue where dreams are fulfilled. All in about 65 days.

This year's trip will be different.......

.... and somewhat disappointing. Since this is an even numbered year, we knew that attendance might not be as robust as usual. But since we missed last year, I didn't want to wait another year to renew the visits. Hence, I decided to attend and hoped others would follow. I even agreed to bring my son, along with his new moniker Jeep CJ.

Unfortunately, other traditional Oktoberfestians will not be attending. No Barley Man. No Paulaner Girl. No Einfarht. And now no Barbus or Schlumberger Lady.

Oh well, fun will still be had by all. We will hook up with Alcoholische and Betrunken and wreck havoc as usual.

Just remember, it is never too late to change your mind and go. However, costs tend to increase as you get closer.

Never too early.....

To think about day trips or daily itineraries. While we never overly plan our visits, we do like to have some idea of what we are doing. Since this will be Jeep CJ's first visit, I want to make sure we have all the highlights covered.

We arrive at about 09:30 on Friday, so that should put us at Hotel Alfa by 11:00 at the latest. Check-in, maybe a quick "wake up shower", and time to experience Munich. Probably need some lunch, so maybe a quick trip around the corner for a Donner sandwich; extra spicy of course :-)

Probably then take the traditional walk through Karlzplatz and Marienplatz on the way to the Hofbrauhaus. Depending on the weather, a few stops along the way for a bier would not be out of order. Maybe even hit the Viktualienmarkt. Then of course it's the traditional Friday afternoon escapades at the Hofbrauhaus. The evening finishes with either dinner at Augustiner Keller, and certainly our first visit to Shakespeare's.

Sounds like a lot of planing for someone who doesn't want to overly plan. I'll cover other daily options later, but suffice to say, Saturday P.M. is our tent reservations, and Sunday will be our religious sojourn to Kloster Andechs.

Remember, Mr. Spock was almost right when he said "live long and prosper". He meant to say, "leben lang und trinkien Bier!"

Almost Time for Happy Birthday......

Can you believe it? In just two weeks, our beloved Oktoberfest Visits Blog will be 11 years old! Check out the very first blog post here...

After reading that post I have tears in my eye. It's amazing how our first experience has grown up. And everything in that first posting is still true today, except this link to another Blog at the time... http://www.popdex.com.

Keep those posts coming. While it is still only February, that first bier is not that far away.

On a Hunt

Been looking on the BDG for the shirts to come back on sale to get one for my brothers but have had no luck.  Willing to pay top dollar for an XXL and a Med if any are available..  They could even already have marks on the back for keep track.  We already hit more than half already so it would not be out of place or a lie...

This will be my son's first trip to the Fest.  Please feel free to shower him with the good, the bad, and maybe even the ugly. But remember the n'not for export rule'.

His name is Gregory, and he needs a handle for the blog. I know most of you do not know him, but suggest something anyway.

Tent Reservations.....

Have been secured for Saturday, 24 September. We will be spending the afternoon at the Hacker-Festzelt.

All the important plans are made.....

We have flight reservations and Hotel rooms at the Hotel Alfa! 

We means my son and I. His first trip to The Fest. A true newbie. We need one every year. We all need to show him how the real world works.

Now the countdown begins.

Alkoholische tells me you guys will be making a return visit this year.  Once we get out act more together we will have to plan to catch up with you either at the weizen, keller, or even that wonderful spot Shakespeare's.  Thanks for all the past advice that has help arm us with valuable information that has help make our trips more enjoyable. 

Oktoberfest 2016

So it looks like Alkoholische, Betrunken, and Brother Jason will be traveling to Muchen , Germany for Oktoberfest 2016. We will be traveling on September 20th and arriving on the 21st. We will be staying at the Hotel Alfa until September 28th. More plans to follow.

Gentlemen . . . Der Kubaner is in for Oktoberfest, 2015

I had to back out of the last trip because my oldest son was leaving for college.  This year I will be going to Oktoberfest with my 2nd son.  I already booked my room (Hilton Munich City) and am all set.

My 2nd son is 18 and has heard from my oldest son, what an awesome time Oktoberfest is.  We are really looking forward to it.

Our trip is scheduled the 23rd-28th.

We would love to get together and see if we can attend some events with the group.

When traveling, even though most Europeans do speak some English, don't be obnoxious, but be polite if you don't speak any German. Don't be like these guys.......

A German guy, looking for directions, pulls up at a bus stop where two Americans are waiting. "Entschuldigung, koennen Sie Deutsch sprechen?" he asks. The two Americans just stare at him. "Excusez-moi, parlez vous Francais?" he tries. The two continue to stare. "Parlare Italiano?" No response. "Hablan ustedes Espanol?" Still nothing. The German guy drives off, extremely disgusted.
The first American turns to the second and says, "Y'know, maybe we should learn a foreign language."
"Why?" says the other. "That guy knew four languages, and it didn't do him any good."

When to Commit?

It is easy to talk about going to Oktoberfest, but the hard part is committing. We understand there are lots of factors; timing, money, family, vacation availability. We have all faced those issues. At some point you must make a commitment though. So when should that be?

The obvious answer is "as soon as possible". Two key items drive the decision from a timing standpoint. The first is airline reservations and the second is hotel reservations. Let's attack the hotel issue first. If you travel with Oktoberfest Visits, we have you covered. Our team stays at the Hotel Alfa, and we already have rooms reserved.

Now, what about getting to Munich? That is the infamous $65,000 question. Once you decide to go, you need to decide how much you are comfortable with paying for airfare. Someone will always pay more and someone will always pay less. Once you decide on a price.... Go for it. Whether it is actually paying with your hard earned dollars or using mileage, as long as you are comfortable with the decision, it is the right decision.

To start thinking about Oktoberfest 2015. While it may seem like a long time from now, there is plenty of planning you need to be managing. Things like:

-Flight Reservations (especially if using frequent flyer mileage)

-Vacation Time

-Your Itinerary

-Hotel Reservations

-Go on your own or with Oktoberfest Visits

Another reason to go to Oktoberfest and drink bier...

I always knew something was just inherently right about bier. Everyday another study confirms it, and for those of us that are not 30-something anymore, drink up.
