Beer Call 9/11/05
Beer call:
I am drinking a Widmer Hefeweizen while sitting in my backyard enjoying the sunshine. Yummy... I think I have developed a taste for Wheat.

** for those of you who do not know what a "Beer Call" is, let me explain. A beer call is a broadcast to many people, who then post what their last beer they had was, and some short superlative on its greatness, or lack thereof...
Let the call begin....

"I think I have developed a taste for Wheat."
Uh Oh. I hope you and wheat bier do not have the same intimate reaction as with Einfahrt.
Chugger-
What, You can't remeber the last beer you had?
While the most recent sampling was that of Thirsty Dog's Robinson's IPA (about the only TD brew still available), this review is about Arrogant Bastard Ale. Thirsty Dog is now tying to pride themselves on various other micro-brews on tap, and a most recent additon is Arrogant Bastard (AB).
While AB is certainly a unique brew, both in terms of taste and marketing presence, it is not one that can be consumed in mass quantities. While the alcohol level is nice (aroubd 10%), it is a very malty ale. For thos eof you taht have had TD's Irish Setter Red, it makes Red' maltiness seems almost non-existent. Try it if you must, but don't drink tooo much.
Saturday evening, watching Ohio State's Series of Unfortunate Incidents (they lost) involved Thirsty Dog's attempt to replace their Wheat beer. They have a Wheat from AB (see above.) During the summer months, perhaps extending to and through Oktoberfest, the Wheat beer is pleasantly soft. Care should be taken to not get one too sweet, or still active from a yeast point-of-view. It can create intestinal fermentation causing Unfortunate Results. Wheat is a popular Bavarian brew.
Stone Brewing is based here in SD and generally highly regarded. For the holidays, they sell AB it in huge Champagne style bottles.
It is definately a strong beer. They also have a stone pale Ale that is pretty good too, but not quite Sierra Nevada good.
It was Saturday; 2 pints of Brand at the yearly outdoor Drinking and Eating Festival in Alkmaar. (Einfahrt was there once) After the 2 pints we had many bottles of wine during the rest of the weekend.
Excellent. I will have to try Brand.
Just FYI... I also do a wine call with a different group of alcoholics I run with. ;-)
