During my youth time this was a "supermarket" beer. Low budget. Headache beer it was called. But since 10-20 years they work hard on the quality and reputation. The brand of course refers to the Bavarian region (Munich). If you check their websites you will learn that the company still is family owned (Swinckels) and that their premium beer (swinckels volmaakt) is a real good one.
