Early Results
With one person's opinion on the books, and some sketchy recollections of travel times, the early standings look like this. Cloister Andechs looks like an early favorite due to positive reviews and its relative proximity, while at least one reviewer doesn't feel that the beer (and view) at the Eagle's Nest justifies 8 hours of travel. More data is needed, and feel free to add destinations not listed.

Ok, let's skew the scale a bit....
Venue: Hofbrauhaus
Travel Time: 15 mins (.25 hrs)
'X' Factor: 5
((9 - .25) * 5) / 9 = 4.86
You guys HAVE been to Braeustueberl Tegernsee, right? Why not that one? Or maybe the Tram 17 Beer Trek (pg. 49) -- includes Fasanerie, Zur Schwaige (most all of Nymphenburg you need to see), Hirschgarten (what's left of Nymphenburg you need to see), and Augustiner Keller, on the way back to the Hauptbahnhof and one stop away from the Wies'n. Now that would be a pretty good warm up to the O-fest. Eliska and I are headed there Aug. 2, but will be back Sept. 1. Had a great time at the Fruehlingsfest this spring, though. Cheers.

Well, strictly speaking: there wasn't much besides a snack shop - part of a tourist shop - at the top of Eagle's nest. There were restaurants at the village at the bottom of the hill, and near the train station, but those are 40-50 minutes away from Eagle's nest. I leave it to others for their refinement of "X"
Larry,
Your Tram 17 Beer Trek definitely sounds like something to consider. We have been to Tegernsee in the past as well.
Glad to see you are monitoring our escapades.
